Indie creators in all mediums are prime inspirations for me, and indie game developers perch proudly on that list. Whether single creators or small, medium, or even larger teams of Indies, they put their heart into their work, pushing the boundaries of experimentation in a time when the gaming industry has become more risk averse. Each year, the Day of the Devs presentation shines light onto upcoming indie games on the Summer Game Fest stage. For a full list of the announcements from the show, check out this great breakdown from Game Informer’s Kyle Hilliard. Below are listed the games from that showcase that have been confirmed for macOS.

Blood Dungeon

Screenshot of playable character traversing 2D platforming space through a host of obstacles on screen.
From the creators of Nidhogg, murder hordes of monsters in this 2D platforming autoshooter with a killer soundtrack. Collect Blood, gold, and bones to increase your powers. Can you survive the Blood Dungeon?

From developer Messhof, creators of Nidhogg, Blood Dungeon is a side scrolling 2D platformer that looks like could’ve been made in MS Paint (in the absolute best way). Its handcrafted aesthetic is oozing with style.

There is a macOS demo available from its Steam page, so check it out and wishlist it if it jives with you! I’ve already downloaded it and will check its performance on an M1 MacBook Pro.

System specs listed on Steam:

Requires an Apple processor
PROCESSOR: Silicon M1
MEMORY: 8 GB RAM

The current release window is set for 2026.

Ithaca

View through windshield of a car at sunset-orange sky framing silhouetted mountains in the distance.
Ithaca is a narrative road-trip with RPG elements about environmental resistance. You play as Penelope, a young environmental rights lawyer, as she drives towards the most important decision she'll ever have to make.

Ithaca is the newest creation from developer The Pixel Hunt, a studio with a recent history of supporting macOS with its narrative-focused games (be sure to check out some of its back catalog on Steam). The landscape visuals here range from sun-soaked neon to dreamy purple night canvases.

Its Steam page offers the option to request access to a playtest of the game. I’ll see what I’m able to do.

System specs listed on Steam:

MINIMUM:
OS: macOS Monterey
PROCESSOR: Intel Core M
MEMORY: 8 GB RAM
GRAPHICS: AMD Radeon Pro 580
STORAGE: 2 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:
PROCESSOR: Apple M1
MEMORY: 8 GB RAM
STORAGE: 2 GB available space

The release window for Ithaca is set for Late 2027.

Apple Crumble

Stylized 3D graphics of two people standing in a run-down kitchen.
It’s your grandma’s 84th birthday party and nobody is trying to murder her. Stop suspecting your family members, and don’t worry about the strange man in your bedroom. A new creepy-cozy mystery thriller from the creators of Duck Detective.

From Happy Broccoli Games, this who-dun-it looks charming as hell. The 3D art direction is a departure from the studio’s previous top-down 2D look for Duck Detective, and they nailed a memorable aesthetic.

Be sure to wishlist this one on Steam. The team posted an update yesterday that they’d already received more than 20,000 wishlists at that time, so let’s keep it up.

System specs listed on Steam:

MINIMUM:
OS: High Sierra 10.13+
PROCESSOR: Apple Silicon, x64 architecture with SSE2
MEMORY: 2 GB RAM
STORAGE: 2 GB available space

Apple Crumble’s release window is set for 2026.

Wrap up

These three games look great and represent diverse game styles and concepts. As a note, a few other games presented at Day of the Devs had not yet announced their OS platforms, so I will update you when those are confirmed in case any of them are slated for macOS releases.
